Mounting Race Seats as Low as Possible

When mounting race seats in your racecar one of the side benefits is to lower the seating position so your head isn't close to the roof of the car. Most race seats are mounted into the car with something called a "Side Mount Bracket".  This device bolts into the side of the racing shell style seat and is usually adjustable for height and tilt or rake via several sets of mounting holes. The bottom of the side mount bracket then bends under the seat and has holes drilled in it that can be bolted straight down onto seat tracks (also called sliders) or directly to the floor pan or to a seat adapter bracket.

Most seat manufacturers offer various side mount brackets to allow the mounting of their seats. In the case of Recaro, they offer one style of bracket to fit their "narrow" seats like the Recaro Profi SPG or Recaro Pro Racer SPG  and another style to fit their "wide" seats like the Recaro Pole Position or Recaro Pro Racer SPG XL. However, in both of these cases the seating position is somewhat high, especially for taller drivers. The solution is to use a Side Mount Bracket made by Sparco which will fit either of the Recaro width seat shells as well as any of the Sparco seat shells, plus it is made of black anodized aluminum for a lightweight and professional installation. This Side Mount Bracket is called the SM 490W  and it will mount your seat as low in the car as possible.
